DESCRIPTION
This project is to conduct final scoping, complete fish barrier culvert correction designs and apply for project permitting for 11 sites on 5 streams in Grays Harbor County. The intent is to use the permitted designs to apply for future funding to construct the projects to replace the barriers with structures that are passable to all aquatic species and life stages in order to open access to excellent upstream spawning and rearing habitat. Ultimately, five species of salmonids will benefit from the improved habitat conditions in the Chehalis Basin as a result of designing and constructing these projects.
Designs and permits were completed for correcting 11 fish passage barrier culverts on 5 streams in Grays Harbor County. Five projects were designed and permitted on separate road crossings on Sand Creek near McCleary. These projects were funded for construction under a separate grant (18-1364); construction was completed in the summer of 2018. The Wynooche Road Geissler Creek project was funded for construction under grant 19-1563 and will be constructed this summer (2020). The Newskah Road correction was been funded for construction under grant 18-1627 and will also be completed this summer. Permits and designs have been completed for 3 sites on Camp Creek east of Montesano, and also for Walker Road Mopang Creek. These materials will be used to apply for construction funds under future grant cycles. Thus all work under this design-only grant has been completed with no cost or scope amendments other than time extensions to complete all work.
