DESCRIPTION
Plant lower flood plain bench along Chehalis River and upper Scatter Creek riparian area with a variety of native trees, plants and shrubs to restore and increase the protective buffers along both water ways.
This Restoration Project is located on the Scatter Creek Farm & Conservancy property in the Rochester area of south Thurston County. The project proposes to plant lower flood plain bench along the mainstem of the Chehalis River and the mainstem Scatter Creek riparian area with a variety of native trees, plants and shrubs to restore and increase the protective buffers along both water ways to support all life stages of the current and historic Coho, Cutthroat, and Chum salmonid runs which use these systems. These plantings will enhance and expand the small existing riparian areas over 100 feet, providing cooler temperatures for the stream systems and the riparian soils, insuring the charging reaches of Scatter Creek and the Chehalis River stay cool during the warm summer months, helping to buffer the impacts from trending climate changes in the region.
NOTES
