This project a 7.2 acre parcel in the forested floodplain of the Lower Middle Fork Nooksack River. Now that we've acquired it, we can move forward with plans to enhance habitat connectivity, including side channels, stream beds, riparian forest to the main stem of the Middle Fork. The site is along Canyon Lake Creek, a tributary of the lower Middle Fork Nooksack River, and lies within the floodplain, with side channels. This acquisition protects Tier 1 Chinook Salmon habitat and habitat-forming natural processes as a part of overall efforts in the lower Middle Fork Nooksack. Through this project we are protecting and enhancing salmon habitat, and reconnecting floodplains to the mainstem of the river for habitat diversity and climate change mitigation.
