DESCRIPTION

This project will acquire a 5-7 acre parcel in the forested floodplain of the Lower Middle Fork Nooksack River. Once acquired, structures will be removed, the habitat connectivity will be enhanced, including side channels, stream beds, riparian forest to the main stem of the Middle Fork.The site is along Canyon Lake Creek, a tributary of the lower Middle Fork Nooksack River, and lies with the floodplain, with side channels. The overall goal is to protect Tier 1 Chinook Salmon habitat and habitat-forming natural processes as part of overall efforts in the lower Middle Fork Nooksack to protect and enhance salmon habitat and reconnect floodplains to River for habitat diversity and climate change mitigation.
