DESCRIPTION
The project will address various limiting factors for salmonids identified in the Tucannon River Model Watershed Plan Process. The same limiting factors are being addressed in the Touchet Watershed because of the similarity of limiting factors for most streams in SE Washington. Currently limiting factor assessments are being conducted with funding from HB2496 and GSRO. Projects were identified from the Tucannon River Model Watershed Plan, WDFW, and Landowner interest and reviewed by an Interdisciplinary Team consisting of WDFW, NRCS, CCD, & Landowners. The team identified the project scope of work based on site specific limiting factors & goals/objectives identified within the Plan. Projects identified for implementation will restore & enhance salmonid habitat using bio-engineering techniques such as vortex weirs, cross veins, log veins, rootwad revetments, J-hook veins, and large woody debris (LWD) placement. The project will improve salmonid habitat in the Touchet and Tucannon Rivers through bank stabilization; increased riparian development; pool development for adult pre-spawning holding, enhanced survivability, & juvenile rearing; improved stream width/depth ratios reducing water temperature; riparian restoration; LWD placement; and enhanced stream hydrology. Sites include Jim Byers, Delbert Howard, Janet Howard, Tucannon Ranch and Rose Gulch.
