DESCRIPTION
The North Fork, South and Charley Creek are the three main headwater tributaries of Asotin Creek and are considered a priority for restoration in the Snake River Salmon Recovery Plan. Asotin Creek is also designated as a wild steelhead refuge in which hatchery steelhead are removed at a WDFW fish weir downstream. The main stem of Asotin and the upper three tributaries have been identified as an intensively monitored watershed (IMW) calling for extensive habitat and fish population monitoring in the three tributaries and in the main stem. The objective of the IMW is to test the effects of habitat restoration on steelhead survival and productivity. Habitat assessments within the three upper tributaries have indicated that the habitat factor most limiting in the tributaries is the absence of large wood and the pools and channel structure that come with large wood.
