The Asotin County Conservation District is sponsoring the Asotin Creek PA 06 Restoration project to implement designs for Asotin Creek PA 06 that were funded as part of 2019 SRFB grant round. Asotin Creek PA 06 is located southwest of the City of Asotin, WA along Asotin Creek Road. The project begins at RM 7.0 and ends at approximately RM 7.4. Asotin Creek is listed as a major spawning area and the project is in a Priority Restoration Reach. PA 06 was identified as a Tier 1 project in the Asotin County Conceptual Restoration Plan. The project will improve native salmonid habitat by accomplishing a set of process-based design objectives to restore natural channel processes and floodplain interaction. The side channel connection was designed such that the expected side channel flow frequency is on a nearly annual basis to increase regular floodplain inundation, slow in-stream velocities, and reduce bed and bank erosion in the main channel during flood events. Off-channel habitat areas were designed to be sustainable through annual flooding to create juvenile Snake River steelhead and Chinook rearing habitat and limit the potential for stranding. Habitat structures are designed to provide sustainable aquatic habitat and increase habitat complexity and hydraulic diversity. Bank treatments are designed to increase bank stability, reduce sedimentation, and incorporate native streambank vegetation. There will be livestock fence and a crossing installed to achieve exclusion.
