DESCRIPTION
The objective of this project is to complete phase two of the removal of a fish barrier problem located on the lower portion of Alpowa Creek on the Wilson Banner Ranch. The problem stems from concrete block dams that are constructed to allow for the irrigation of their fruit orchards and vegetable fields located on the bottom land. Wilson's have had a water right for many years to extract irrigation water for their land. This method has worked for many years but has caused migration problems for steelhead into the Alpowa Creek. At times there are three dams constructed on the property. One dam is used to create a pool to allow for the extraction of water by a pump located on a bridge above the stream. Another dam is constructed to divert water into an open ditch that feeds the intake to another pump. A third dam is constructed to allow for the irrigation of a small fruit orchard located on the upper portion of the property. The first portion of the project involved the placement of 3,600 ft. of 15 inch plastic pipe as an off channel supply line to the irrigation pumps. This second portion of the project will be the completion of the supply line and the construction of a diversion rock weir and screen mechanism to supply water to the irrigation supply line. The structure will be constructed at an upstream location to allow for sufficient hydraulic head and screen hydraulic criteria with a self cleaning design.
