Coppei Creek is part of the Middle Touchet major spawning area supporting a wild population of Mid Columbia Steelhead. The reek has undergone extensive riparian restoration as part of the NRCS CREP program and conservation easements. As a result, little riparian restoration work remains to be completed. The success of the riparian restoration recently provoked the SRSRB RTT to reduce the restoration designation on the upper creek to protection stating habitat complexity is well on it's way to recovery.
On another note, very little upland soil protection has been conducted resulting in periodic heavy sediment loads reaching the creek and being transported to the Touchet River. This project will work to identify interested landowners and implement projects in the Coppei Creek drainage that improve upland agriculture by implementing BMPs (Direct-seed/No-till, etc.). Projects may also employ other methods to reduce fine sediment routing to Coppei Creek.
