DESCRIPTION
Couse Creek has undergone sever degradation as a result of past land management practices, resulting in channel and floodplain scour. Deposition in the middle reach has deposited porous material causing low to no surface flow during dry periods. Work has begun to consolidate these materials and reestablish riparian trees to aid in shading remaining surface flow. Couse Creek has also established a split channel dividing the flow potential creating a low flow barrier to fish passage. Summer base flows through this reach may limit fish migration and increase water temperature. To prevent the loss of channel complexity created by the split channel a structure could be placed to divert low flows back into the main channel while allowing high flows to flow in the side channel. This project will be phased to allow riparian planting to take root prior to conducting channel work.
