DESCRIPTION
The Pomeroy Conservation District identified and provided cost share for the installation of 9 irrigation screens located throughout Garfield County on Pataha, Deadman, and Meadow Creeks. The projects were installed as part of the Pomeroy Conservation District's and WDFW's Voluntary Screen Compliance Program. Regionally, fish barriers and screens were the highest priority for action due to immediate and long-term benefits while addressing "Take" potential. Deadman, Meadow and Pataha Creeks were identified in WRIA 35 Limiting Factor Analysis, Pataha Model Watershed Plan and NWPCC Subbasin Planning efforts as spawning and rearing reaches for ESA listed steelhead. The scope of this proposal included assessment of current screen conditions, design for compliant screen condition, and screen installation meeting compliance conditions. The program required WDOE water right vertification and met WDFW and NMFS screen design requirements. This project was a critical component of the various planning efforts in Southeast Washington and provided landowners cost share funding incentive during depressed agricultural economic times.
