DESCRIPTION
This Tri-State Steelheaders project improved fish passage to over 11 miles of Pataha Creek and its tributaries by replacing an undersized culvert with a bridge. The six foot diameter culvert presents a passage barrier to juvenile summer steelhead (ESA-listed) and resident rainbow trout due to hydraulic conditions. A pre-fabricated concrete bridge will provide over 30 feet of free-span, increasing the area of conveyance under the bridge by a factor of six. The project will result in a natural streambed and unimpeded passage for fish and other aquatic species at the road crossing. This barrier culvert is on Pataha Creek, a tributary to the Tuccannon River. The culvert is 67% passable. Steelhead spawning in this section of stream. WRIA: 35 River System: Snake/ Mid- Columbia US Barriers: No known. There are 6-10 culvert or bridge crossings starting two miles upstream to the National Forest boundary at about 4 miles upstream. DS Barriers: One known barrier at US12, site 991746, 33% passable. Landowner rep believes there are several downstream barriers. Box culvert at Columbia Center has a fence trash rack which may be a barrier to adult salmonids.
