DESCRIPTION
Alpowa Creek is tributary to the Snake River in WRIA 35 is home to ESA listed stocks of Snake River summer steelhead. Turbidity and fine sediment were a primary limiting factors identified by the 1995 Asotin Creek Model Watershed Plan (Plan). The Plan was the first in WA dealing specifically with watershed restoration and protection of fish habitat and was developed by BPA, NRCS, WDFW, USFS, DOE, and local landowners. The project as proposed aimed at reducing in-stream fine sediment to increase egg incubation success and juvenile salmonid survival to levels of < 10% embededness. This project worked to convert an additional 2900 acres in Alpowa Creek from traditional plow methods to no-till direct seed agriculture.
