DESCRIPTION
The Rainwater Wildlife Management Area is operated and managed by the Confederated Tribes of the Umatillia Indian Reservation and is located in the South Fork Touchet River. The South Fork is a high priority for salmon and steelhead habitat restoration in the Walla Walla wathershed. Riparian restoration initiated by the CTUIR is well underway to recovery however damage to the channel resulting in disconnection from its floodplain has hindered full recovery of channel complexity. This project would work to place large key piece logs and structures in channel for the purpose of retaining bed load and aggrading the channel. Through this process it would be predicted increased complexity and water retention would improve fish populations.
