The Washington Water Trust (WWT) has completed a water saving project making it possible for a local irrigated wheat farmer to convert from irrigation to dry land agriculture. The Change of practice allowed for 3 cfs of Touchet River flow to be trusted for instream flows. This project was supported by Bonneville Power, Washington Department of Ecology and the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation. Flows were acquired in the lower river where migrations of spring Chinook and steelhead have been historically blocked by low flows. Increased flows in the lower river will help in passing adult fish to spawning and rearing habitat in the upper basin. This project was previously in the SRSRB 3 year work plan as #32-00529.
