DESCRIPTION
Sediment basins have been constructed on ephemeral tributaries to Alpowa Creek in an effort to reduce fine sediments from originating on upland areas and routing through streams into salmon and steelhead habitat. Sediment ponds are implemented in places were lands are highly erodible and fast recovery is not likely. Ponds require frequent maintenance to remove accumulated sediment, particularly following large storm events.

Erosion Control structures like hill terraces are constructed into steep hill sides which have history or potential for producing fine sediments during precipitation events. For a detailed description regarding terraces and their use in erosion control see the NRCS wed-site.
