DESCRIPTION
Located near the historic town of Pitt, Logging Camp Creek is a tributary to the Klickitat River. The new landowner at the mouth of Logging Camp Creek approached the NRCS on a project to reestablish summer steelhead populations above a blockage caused by the old railroad grade. NRCS took the idea to the WRIA 30 advisory committee. An on-site visit confirmed the fish passage problem and started the process toward solutions. This project develops a single 1/8 mile channel for fish passage by modifying an existing constriction into one main channel. An excavator will be used to deepen the braided channels and create one single channel. Klickitat River tributaries do not come close toward meeting historic production levels. Like some other Klickitat River tributaries (including Swale and Snyder Creeks), fish passage blockage on Logging Camp Creek has made it impossible for salmon and steelhead to utilize this habitat. The proposed project will enable salmonids to spawn and rear in a traditionally used area.
