There has been a long history of work to protect lands in the Cowiche watershed from development. Cowiche Creek is a less developed watershed adjacent to the City of Yakima facing development pressures. WDFW, the Cowiche Conservancy, the City of Yakima, and Yakima County have all worked to acquire lands and easements that protect open space, fish and wildflife habitat, and outdoor recreation opportunities.
