DESCRIPTION
We propose the
final design and permitting of in-stream large wood structures in the North
Fork Teanaway River, near the confluence with Indian Creek. These
structures will increase floodplain inundation, increase pool frequency,
capture gravels to cover exposed bedrock, and provide cover for fish.
Mid-Columbia Fisheries Enhancement Group advanced restoration designs to improve instream freshwater habitat, floodplain connectivity and riparian function within the Teanaway Community Forest in Kittitas County, WA. Habitat restoration design deliverables include:
a) West Fork Teanaway River RM 6.85 – 8.0: Preliminary Design to increase habitat complexity and reconnect the floodplain through regrading, wood placement and channel fill. Final Design will be completed by WDFW and restoration will be implemented with SRFB project 24-1717 and other funding.
b) West Fork Teanaway River RM 5.1 – 6.85: Conceptual Design to reconnect the left bank floodplain through regrading and channel fill in targeted locations, install large wood and excavate to reconnect side channels, and restore riparian and wetland habitat within the construction zone. Final Design will be completed by Interfluve with funding from YBIP and other sources.
When complete, both sets of final design documents will be attached to this project in PRISM and align to the Manual 18 SRFB Design Requirements outlined in Appendix D.
Additionally, MCF staff worked with USFS to support beginning conceptual design for a "Stage 0" Valley Reset on the Middle Fork Teanaway River RM 3.2-5.4. Final Design will be funded by SRFB project 24-1718 and other sources with technical support from USFS.
The overall project goal is to improve steelhead and salmon habitat by designing restoration treatments that widen floodplain inundation, increase pool frequency, capture gravels to cover exposed bedrock, and provide cover for fish to benefit Mid-Columbia steelhead, spring Chinook salmon, resident rainbow and cutthroat trout, and designated Critical Habitat for bull trout.
