DESCRIPTION
Ahtanum Creek is utilized at various life stages by 5 migratory fish species in the Yakima Basin: steelhead, spring chinook, coho, lamprey, and bull trout. The following proposed projects would occur in the headwaters of Ahtanum Creek. These projects will address issues related to erosion and recreation impacts on core bull trout spawning areas and improve watershed health.  South Fork Ahtanum Creek: Proposed action- de-compact the user built road, install large woody debris (LWD) and boulders, and plant native vegetation on the north side of the creek. Collaboration with the Yakama Nation is needed to block recreational vehicle access from the reservation on the south side of the creek. Middle Fork Ahtanum Creek: Proposed action- relocate the campgrounds away from the stream, install wood and boulders, buck and rail fencing, plant native vegetation, install respect the river signage. North Fork Ahtanum Creek: Proposed action- de-compact the user built road, install LWD and boulders, buck and rail fencing, plant native vegetation, and install respect the river signage.
