DESCRIPTION
The Tillman Creek Acquisition Project will acquire portions of a private parcel that contain Tillman Creek, LaRiviere Creek, and adjacent wetlands, riparian, and freshwater springs. This acquisition will protect critical rearing habitat for juvenile steelhead, coho, and spring Chinook salmonids and water quantity and quality aspects that this property offers for Tillman Creek. A flow augmentation has been constructed that diverts 2 – 4 cfs of flow from LaRiviere Creek (non-fish bearing stream) to Tillman Creek. This project was identified as mitigation opportunity for ground water transfers from Suncadia Water Bank to the Tillman Drainage by Paul LaRiviere and approved by the Department of Ecology. The mitigation flow required is 5 gallons per minute, and KCT manages the flow diversion facility to ensure that the entire flow from LaRiviere Creek is diverted to Tillman for fish and wildlife benefit. The Kittitas Reclamation District ditch crosses Tillman Creek upstream and has flow diversion capabilities to add additional flow to Tillman during times of low flow and extended periods of drought. Freshwater springs found on the property were utilized by South Cle Elum for their historic water supply prior to combining with Cle Elum and their water treatment plant. The Kittitas County Game Commission utilized this site for a fish hatchery where they raised game fish species of the time (1920 era). Remnants of the old fish ways are still loc
