DESCRIPTION
This project aims to build on conceptual and preliminary (60%) designs and to develop and integrate final designs for Gold Creek instream restoration, creation of bid ready documents, and begin the permitting process for restoration of over 1 mile (RM 1.0 – 2.1) of degraded habitat on Gold Creek. Historic disturbances with Gold Creek valley have altered natural geomorphic processes and hydrologic conditions, resulting in degraded habitat conditions. The cumulative impact of these disturbances has resulted in an over-widened, destabilized channel lacking instream complexity and cover, loss of riparian forest and floodplains, and dewaters annually for a significant reach during the summer months. Based on two years of hydrologic and geomorphic assessments, Gold Creek has been impacted by logging of old growth riparian forests, road construction, extensive development in the active floodplain and impacts associated with mining activities. This project will incorporate previous work for design of instream restoration elements to produce final designs, bid documents, and begin permitting efforts for the dewatered reach of Gold Creek, the most degraded reach, to produce a project that will restore natural fluvial processes in Gold Creek to begin the process of creating stable habitat conditions for the Gold Creek Bull Trout population.
