DESCRIPTION
This project proposes to remove an unscreened irrigation diversion, and the only man made passage barrier, on Nile Creek in order to provide fish access to the entire Nile Creek watershed. To accomplish this, Rod Matson’s points of diversion will need to be moved downstream to a point on the Naches River on or adjacent to his property. A pump station with a compliant fish screen and water meter will be constructed at the new point of diversion, and the water will be pumped from the Naches river through a mainline pipe to to a regulating reservoir with overflow to Nile Creek. Mr. Matson also plans to place the entire 3.75 cfs, 1016 acre-feet Nile Creek water right into the state’s water trust, which will have very significant benefits to anadromous and resident fish. The 1.57 cfs, 594 acre-feet conveyance portion of the Naches River water right will also be placed into trust for the entire primary reach of the Nile Ditch (11,305 ft), and the 2.38 cfs, 467 acre-feet irrigation portion will be placed into trust to the new point of diversion (11,120 ft). An upstream water right for fish propagation and aesthetic enhancement on Nile Creek will also be placed into trust as a result of this project.
