DESCRIPTION
The Cascade Land Conservancy acquired two properties totalling 182 acres to protect salmonid habitat. The properties are located in Kittitas County, along Big Creek, a tributary to the Yakima River. The acquisition will help conserve the ecological integrity and biological diversity of the Big Creek watershed by protecting parcels containing critical riparian habitats and linking these parcels to existing public lands at the Wenatchee National Forest. The primary habitat protected is riparian and in-stream. Of the 182 acres acquired, approximately 65 acres provide riparian habitat benefits and one mile of stream corridor. The primary species supported by these habitats are Endangered Species Act listed anadromous fish including spring, summer and fall Chinook and steelhead.
