DESCRIPTION
The Yakama Nation has teamed with the USFS to conduct a habitat restoration project on Tillicum Creek, a tributary of the Mad River (tributary of the Entiat River). At the confluence of Tillicum Creek and the Mad River, is Tillicum Fan. This is an old homesteading site that had been leveled and used to graze sheep and grow alfalfa. The small channel of Tillicum Creek had been moved and locked in place at the base of a steep hillside. The Yakama Nation moved the Tillicum Creek channel away from the hillside and into the fan, creating sinuosity and channel length, add habitat complexity, and planted with new riparian vegetation. A side channel to the Mad River was also created at the confluence of Tillicum Creek. The primary goal of the project was to improve instream process and associated habitat within lower Tillicum Creek and enhance hydrologic connectivity in the area.
