DESCRIPTION
The primary goal of this project is to improve habitat complexity in a 0.9 mile reach upper Goat Creek by restoring stream complexity through the addition of large wood including both multi-log structures and single logs. Habitat surveys in the reach have shown that both pools and spawning gravel are scarce. The lack of these habitat features may be the result of past riparian logging in the reach. The addition of large wood to the reach is expected to promote pool formation and gravel deposition. As a result, appropriate adult holding and spawning habitat in Goat Creek will increase. The project will benefit ESA threatened bull trout and likely ESA threatened steelhead. The project will also provide downstream benefits to spring Chinook and steelhead populations by reducing fine sediment export to occupied habitat in lower Goat Cr. and the adjacent mainstem Methow River.
