DESCRIPTION
This project involves acquisition of isolated floodplain property, lying west of the M2 WDFW Restoration site. Site includes approximately 13 acres of category II wetland, and is immediately connected to a backwater flow channel with seasonal connection to the Methow River. Acquisition will allow removal of a single perched barrier culvert under an existing county road. The culvert will be replaced with two wider and deeper bottomless arch culverts to extend the period of connection between the wetland pond and the Methow River. The project will also include selective riparian revegetation to maintain desired cover for water temperature. Acquisition of the property was modified from fee simple to Conservation Easement in 2012 at the request of the landowner. Negotiations and acquisition of the CE was completed in December 2013. Habitat restoration actions were completed by MSRF in 2013. Adaptive management and monitoring actions will continue through 2016.
