DESCRIPTION
Sponsor proposes to acquire approximately 0.94 acres of riparian and side channel habitat adjacent to the Methow River near RM 48.9, off Witte Road north of Twisp, WA, specifically the floodplain portion of parcel 3421130082. The targeted property includes active floodplain in the Middle Methow (M2) Whitefish Island project area. Current land use is single family residential with out buildings, and vehicle storage and wood cutting in the floodplain portion. The surrounding properties currently provide significant habitat diversity, natural water storage, and critical rearing, refuge, and migratory habitat for ESA listed spring Chinook, summer steelhead, and bull trout, as well as a wide variety of wildlife species. The area adjacent to the property supports some of the highest densities of summer Chinook spawning in the Methow River. The primary objective is to protect and restore natural floodplain functions and riparian buffer within a reach of identified high quality salmonid habitat. Boundary lines will be adjusted to separate upland residential from floodplain.
Update Aug242011 - parcel is surveyed at 2.0 acres, MSRF to acquire 1.0 acre riparian / side channel.
