DESCRIPTION
This project included 're-opening' the sediment plugged main channel (1/2 half mile of streamed channel) and rerouting all of Brender Creek's flow into its historic channel to provide high quality rearing habitat for spring and summer chinook, steelhead and other salmonids. There was also bioengineered erosion control work on ~1/2 mile of streambank; a complete riparian restoration to provide bank stability, shade, instream LWD recruitment, overhanging cover and leaf litter and other detritus for aquatic food chain development within the project's boundaries. In-channel log habitat placement provided critical salmon and steelhead hiding cover and feeding/resting places. And the finishing of a 1 acre salmon and steelhead in-channel rearing pond with the installation of numerous instream and in-pond logs and rootwads became an important summer/over-wintering area for local salmonids, and it may be used to imprint and re-establish coho salmon currently being introduced within the Wenatchee basin.
