This project protects four contiguous parcels totalling about 117 acres on the White River. The property lies between River Miles 4.2-5.3 and includes approximately 6,400 feet of riverbank on one side. Parcels on the opposite side of the river are owned by CDLT and WDFW. The property is almost entirely within the floodplain. The White River is one of the most productive spawning and rearing areas in the Upper Columbia Region for endangered Spring Chinook, endangered steelhead, threatened bull trout and it supports the largest sockeye run in the Columbia Basin. Acquisition of this property protects this area from negative effects of development including: sedimentation, bank armoring, removal of LWD, removal of riparian vegetation for river access, water withdrawal from exempt wells, water and air pollution. The propert includes large timber, relic channels and active side channel habitat. The overarching goal of this effort is to allow natural river processes to continue permanently.
