DESCRIPTION
Wolf Creek supports all three ESA-listed species: steelhead, spring chinook and bull trout. The WCRD has not diverted water during 1999 due to a prohibition imposed by the NMFS, and will not be able to divert water until approved screens are put in operation. The WDFW Yakima Screen Shop proposes to fabricate, deliver and install a custom-designed, modular, rotary drum fish screen and fish bypass system, with a design flow of 12 cfs, for the Wolf Creek Reclamation Ditch (WCRD). The Screen Shop has surveyed the site and the facility design is nearly complete. The design includes: two 2.5 foot diameter x 8 foot long drum screens powered by a single paddlewheel-hydraulics drive system, and a fish bypass system with a baffled flume to safely return fish to Wolf Creek. This site is very remote so the screen structure will be fabricated in steel rather than concrete which would be economically unfeasible. Installation equipment, misc. materials, and pre-fab screen will be air-lifted to the site by helicopter.
WCRD and Sun Mountain Lodge, Inc., the other major wateruser, have pledged a $25,000 or 25 % local cost-share, whichever is greater. NMFS has pledged a $25,000 federal match from Mitchell Act funding.
