DESCRIPTION
This project is located at the confluence of Methow River and Early Winters Creek. The project is an acquisition of the 1020-acre Arrowleaf property on the Methow River which is critical habitat for ESA listed species. If the project area was not purchased the property could have been subdivided into 70 lots and much of the upland and riparian habitat would have been destroyed. Objectives of the acquisition are maintenance of spawning and rearing habitats for salmonids, habitat maintenance for terrestrial wildlife, defining the ecological role of the property in maintaining downstream habitats, and working with the neighboring Early Winters Institute to engage local residents in monitoring, evaluation, modeling and other on-going activities maintaining project values.Target Species Fish - Spring Chinook, Westslope Cuthroat, Bull Trout and Steelhead / Carnivores - as well as Grizzly Bear, Pine Marten, Lynx, Gray Wolf, Wolverine / Avian - Northern Spotted Owl, Goshawk, Golden Eagle, Bald Eagle, Peregrine, Pileated Woodpecker, Harlequin Duck.
