DESCRIPTION
A County-Wide Fish Barrier Inventory provided useful information to County and State personnel by creating a comprehensive listing of all primary fish passage barriers within Chelan County. The inventory assisted the County and other entities in establishing a comprehensive and prioritized list of future projects and developing fish recovery strategies for steelhead (Oncorhyncus mykiss), listed as ESA--Endangered; bull trout (Salvelinus confluentus), listed as ESA Threatened; and spring chinook (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha), ESA--Endangered. The project has been reviewed by the USFWS, Chelan County P.U.D #1, and WDFW biologists and fish passage specialists, and all reviewers have indicated a high feasibility of project success. Additionally, the project was reviewed by the Regional Technical Advisory Committee organized and facilitated by the Conservation Commission using limiting factors analysis as prescribed in HB 2496. Since the barrier inventory (and associated prioritization) was completed in 2000, many of these structures have been removed and/or replaced with fish passabel structures.

All funding for this project will be committed by September 1999. The project will be monitored by Chelan County, the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife and the United State Fish and Wildlife Service.
