DESCRIPTION
In 2008, Reclamation initiated tributary and reach assessments (USBR 2008; 2009a, 2009b, 2009c) to increase the certainty that habitat actions identified by project sponsors for implementation would contribute to improving VSP parameters for salmonid populations in the Upper Columbia. Reclamation is conducting these assessments as partial fulfillment of their Federal Columbia River Power System (FCRPS) Biological Opinion (BiOp) obligations. In 2009, as part of the Yakama Nation Columbia Basin Fish Accord MOA, the Yakama Nation also began conducting reach assessments in reaches within nine Upper Columbia Region tributaries using Reclamation's reach assessment protocols. The priority reaches and actions identified in these assessments will be used by the Watershed Action Teams to develop and refine the multi-year action plans.
Currently in the Wenatchee subbasin, tributary and reach assessments have been completed on Nason Creek and assessments are planned on Icicle, and Peshastin creeks (see attached assessment schedule for the Upper Columbia region). The purpose of the MCA study is to evaluate the fluvial system and to identify potential preservation and project areas within the study area that could be conserved or restored in order to meet the Federal Columbia River Power System (FCRPS) Biological Opinion (BiOp).
The Nason Creek study area is located between river mile (RM) 4 and 12 on Nason Creek where private property is present.
