DESCRIPTION
The objective of this project was to restore floodplain and river function and reclaim aquatic use of an oxbow by removing a turnpiked section of road and it's associated culverts that have been in place for nearly 30 years. Use of the off-channel habitat in the oxbows by threatened bull trout and endangered spring Chinook salmon and steelhead was limited due to passage problems at the culverts. The turnpiked segment of road also prohibited the interaction between the White River and its floodplain to dissipate flood flows.
