DESCRIPTION
This project involved the removal of old bank hardening associated with the Robinson Road right of way. The project site is on Skagit County park property located at the end of the Robinson Road. This land was acquired by the Skagit Land Trust with grant funding from the SRFB and later transferred to the County. Located on the property is the old Robinson right of way which historically connects to Utopia Road just downstream. This road has long been abandoned but bank armoring still remains. This project completed a risk assessment study to determine any potential effect of the rock removal to infrastructure and private property. After completing the risk analysis we worked towards removing the rock and replanting the disturbed area with native vegetation. The length of the project site is approximately 250 feet. The risk assessment also included looking at the risk of removing additional bank hardening on County land upstream. Funding for removal of this additional upstream rock was not requested. The riparian vegetation on the site is dominated by deciduous species so we removed invasives (blackberry) in an old farm field and replanted with native vegetation. We also under plant with conifer species in the areas dominated by deciduous species to enhance diversity. WCC and volunteer party through SFEG assisted in the planting.
