DESCRIPTION
This project eliminated the erosion threat by acquiring six parcels (~61.27 acres), removed all the houses and outbuildings, removed 440 linear feet of riprap, removed two culverts, planted 12 acres of floodplain with native tree species, and installed six large woody debris structures to restore habitat conditons. This project improved habitat, avoids erosion impacts to private property and saves government agencies substantial funds and headaches. The Sauk River is the largest tributary of the Skagit River and supports all five salmon species, cutthroat trout, steelhead, and native char. It is a highly productive system that contributes substantially to fish populations in the Skagit River basin and the region.
