DESCRIPTION
Skagit Conservation District partnered with USFS on an erosion reduction project to reduce the risk of road failures, erosion and its negative effects to Cascade River RM 7.8-11.2, Sibley and lower mile of Marble Creek and, South Fork Cascade River flood plain. This project was designed to reduce the risk of road failure and resultant sediment production that occur from water collection and concentration and its negative affects on fish habitat. The project consisted of culvert replacement, ditching and fill stabilization. Chinook, Dolly Varden utilized this area as well as coho, chum, pink, sea run and resident populations of cutthroat, rainbow (steelhead). This project targeted the limiting factor of egg to fry survival due to sedimentation for native Chinook, Coho, steelhead and Dolly Varden. This roadwork was first identified in 1988-watershed analysis, 1992 road deficiency survey and 1995 following storm activity. This proposal will address 9.9 miles of high risk road segments: Road 1540, Sibley Creek MP 0- 4.5; Road 1550, Irene Creek MP 0- 0.8 and Road 1570, Found Creek MP 0-1.6 upgrade to standard (culvert replacement, ditching and fill stabilization); Road 1570 MP 1.6-2.2 culvert removal, install rocked line rolling dips, Road 1540 015, Sibley Burn MP 0-1.5, 1520, Marble Creek MP 0- 0.8 decommission (culvert removal, fill stabilization and installation of rock lined water bars).
