DESCRIPTION

Skagit County used this funding to acquire 18 acres of mainstem and off-channel salmon habitat in the middle Skagit River reach. The site is completely within the floodway of the Skagit River and adjacent the Town of Lyman and to USFWS Wild & Scenic River protected property. The whole property is a riparian hardwood forest and is bisected by numerous sloughs. The acquisition benefited Chinook salmon, coho salmon, steelhead and bull trout. The mainstem of the Skagit River at this site provides spawning habitat for Chinook, while the sloughs provide rearing habitat for Chinook, coho, steelhead and bull trout. The project ranked #2 out of 198 properties inventoried, evaluated and ranked by the Skagit Land Trust and Skagit Watershed Council, in the "Middle Skagit Inventory and Assessment, Final Report - June 2003".
