DESCRIPTION
The Nature Conservancy acquired the 185-acre Wilcox property, which lies along the Suiattle River within the wild segment of the Skagit Wild and Scenic River system. Seven species of anadromous fish, including a depressed stock of the federally listed Chinook, are found in the Suiattle River. Spawning and rearing habitat occurs adjacent to the targeted parcels. Restoration covered both the Wilcox and Tribal Allotment property and included replacing a barrier culvert within the the floodplain channel and planting, removing road fill and construction a bridge, identifying other potential fish barriers, and planting. Total numbers planted were 300 bare-root stock conifers - 150 cedar, 100 Grand fir, and 50 hemlock.
