Control of invasive Spartina spp.with the goal of eradication in the estuaries of Skagit Bay and and Port Susan. The Board has been working cooperatively with surrounding Counties, WSDA, DOE, WSDF&W, non-profits and private property owners since 1996 to control Spartina. In 2005 a new herbicide became available for controlling Spartina. Since that point Spartina has been reduced to the point that eradication has become the goal. In 1995 over 1100 acres of Spartina were present in Puget Sound. Today there is estimated to be less than 50 acres. This remaining acreage is spread out over the original areas making control an on the ground operation labor intensive operation.
