DESCRIPTION
The project goal was to restore the stream, wetland and habitat functions along Mosher Creek, a tributary to Mosher, and their adjacent wetlands. The benefits included providing an immediate and long-term source of large wood, providing shade, filtering pollutants, increasing the instream and streambank food supply for salmon and improving wildlife habitat. Coho salmon use the stream and thousands of fry are observed in the beaver ponds every spring. The reed canary grass was controlled, nearly 3,000 native plants were installed, snags and live poles were placed for wildlife habitat, and several bird and bat houses were installed on the snags. The project was a partnership between Snohomish County Surface Water Management (SWM), the State Department of Corrections, and the two landowners.
