DESCRIPTION
This is the second and third phase of a 3 phase along the lower reach of Cherry Creek. This project will install LWD, reslope the bank edge of Cherry Creek and plant a riparian buffer along its banks, move and replace a livestock bridge, and re-connect a historic side channel.
This project is located north of Duvall, WA along Highway 203. The restoration will address the Conservation Plan recommendations by removing existing rip rap bank armoring, re-contouring banks and construct planting benches, install LWD including log jams to restore edge habitat to benefit Chinook and other salmonids. A historic channel will also be excavated and widened to improve side channel connection with LWD installed. An existing failing bridge and mid-channel abutments will be removed and replaced with a livestock access bridge. Riparian planting will occur after construction is completed through other funding sources. Cherry Creek is listed in the Snohomish River Basin Salmon Conservation Plan as a Rural Primary Restoration stream and is designated as core summer salmonid habitat with documented presence of coho, chum, chinook, pink, and winter steelhead. Coho and winter steelhead are known to spawn in the upper portions of Cherry Creek, while the other species utilize the lower portions of the sub-basin for spawning and rearing. The plan also recommends that restoration of degraded habitat conditions along the lower reach of Cherry Creek include riparian enhancement, increased channel structure and complexity, riprap removal and LWD placement.
