DESCRIPTION

This project would remove a failing log stringer bridge on Forest Service Road 6024-510. The bridge stringers consist of multiple large logs, up to 4.5ft in diameter, which are currently constraining the Barclay Creek channel. Removing this bridge is listed as a high priority action in the North and South Fork Skykomish Watershed Action Plan.

Already partially in the channel, removing the bridge would prevent future negative effects from total failure. A channel blocked by a collapsed bridge would collect more debris and eventually blow out, leading to channel instability, scour, and sedimentation to spawning and rearing habitats used by salmon, steelhead, and resident trout. A collapsed bridge would also pose a passage barrier to migrating fish.
