Haystack Creek is located near the City of Sultan and the lower reaches of the Braided Reach on the Skykomish River. Haystack Creek drains into Tychman Slough which is an overflow channel to the Skykomish River. The lower 1.5 miles of Haystack Creek has four culvert crossings that are in various stages of degradation and act as barriers to salmon. Landuse is grazing cattle, fallow farmland, and rural residential. Two landowners own the property along this section of the creek and have agreed to work with Sound Salmon Solutions and Snohomish CD to restore the creek for salmon habitat.
Continuing already completed riparian restoration work, this project will work to replace the blocking culverts at these four crossings to open up fish passage.
