DESCRIPTION
The City of North Bend is partnering with the Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust to restore 3.8 acres along the South Fork of the Snoqualmie in North Bend. Non-native, invasive English ivy covers the trunks and some limbs of about 95% of existing trees and blankets over 75% of the understory. Other non-natives include about 50 holly, English laurel and patches of Himalayan blackberry on road/levee slopes and in open areas. The area, although forested, has very few conifers. More than 500 conifers will be planted to ensure long term weed eradication as well as mature forest development. Invasive removal will begin January 2009, with the tree planting beginning in Fall 2009.
