DESCRIPTION

King County used this funding to protect crucial fish habitat on three properties in King County, totaling 45.19acres. Preserving this area facilitated the implementation of fish habitat restoration projects associated with the Green/Duwamish River Ecosystem Restoration Project sponsored in partnership by the Army Corps of Engineers, King County, and many other jurisdictions. Preserving these parcels protected the best Chinook spawning and rearing habitat in the watershed, expanded the ecological influence of previous acquisitions, created a critical link between large blocks of public open space, and allowed the river to function more naturally, free from levee and development-related construction.
