King County will build upon efforts to complete process-based restoration in the Maury Island Aquatic Reserve by acquiring bluff backed beach for habitat protection and future restoration. This phase of the project targets acquiring fee simple title of the six priority parcels containing approximately 562 linear feet of waterfront, 11 acres riparian bluff. This purchase will allow for the future removal of approximately 372 feet of armored marine shoreline. The parcels purchased with this funding will be used to leverage other funding to obtain future restoration and acquisition dollars within the project area. We expect to complete the purchase in 2017 with the future restoration occurring in 2019-2020, provided fundraising is successful. Once restored, this project will benefit Chinook salmon and forage fish (sand lance, surf smelt and Pacific herring). The grant complements and provides additional match for ESRP proposal 16-2122.
