DESCRIPTION
The Piner Point Natural Area contains a total of 7.76 acres of marine nearshore with coastal bluff backed beach and mature riparian vegetation along the majority of the preservation shoreline. The area also includes six combined shoreline properties, protecting over 1500 lineal feet of ecologically valuable nearshore which lies adjacent to the WA State Maury Island Aquatic Reserve. The Piner Point shoreline provides sediment supply and beach nourishment that extends over seven miles down shore to Point Robinson (northeastern tip of Maury Island).
Only one parcel within the Piner Point Natural Area contains altered or modified shoreline. The subject parcel is 1.05 acres with 225 feet of shoreline and is located on the northern extent of the Piner Point Natural Area. In June, 2009, a small cabin was removed from the site, but the creosote bulkhead remains. The Piner Point Natural Area also has a large infestation of non-native blackberry, English ivy and lawn area.
This project will
• remove and dispose of the bulkhead constructed of creosote pilings.
• construct a small wing wall to protect the adjacent neighbors bulkhead.
• regrade, if necessary.
• control invasive species throughout the natural area.
• replant with native vegetation as needed throughout the natural area.
