DESCRIPTION

This project completed a feasibility report and drawings for the restoration of Sammamish River off channel habit at 102nd Ave in Bothell, King County. The selected preferred alternative restoration concept is to restore about 1,080 lineal feet of a partially remnant side channel and enhancement of about 11.7 acres of seasonally inundated wetlands and upland riparian habitat. Design elements included: removal of non-native vegetation; removal of fill material; excavation of connections to the side channel and wetlands and river; riparian and wetland revegetation with native trees, shrubs and emergent vegetation; and placement of large wood in the side channel, wetlands, and possibly river shoreline. The goal of the project was met, which was to complete conceptual designs that will now lead to a pre and final design of off channel rearing habitat primarily to benefit Chinook salmon as well as Coho, Sockeye, and Steelhead.
